How is the film brought to your attention Essay Example For Students
How is the film brought to your attention? Essay The film The matrix revolutions was brought to my attention through lots of television advertisements, I also know that the matrix is a trilogy and that after reloaded there must be another film to complete the trilogy. There are also rather a lot of magazine and radio adverts to bring about awareness of the film. There was a review in last weeks Sunday times that I managed to see. Do you feel that when the film is finally released you want to see it? Why? As I have seen all of the other matrix films, I feel that I must go and see the latest film. After seeing the first Matrix film I felt I had to go and see the second one. The first film I thought was excellent and still remains as one of my favourite films. However the second film was a big disappointment for me. This was due to a number of factors, the idea that we are all living in a computer program at first intrigued me, but it is now starting to wear increasingly thin on me. And I think the directors of the matrix probably knew this, so consequently they filmed the second with lots of action sequences and Carrie Anne-Moss wearing quite a tight cat suit. At first all this was good, but in hindsight the story line was just poor. If the matrix revolutions was the first film I would see it straight away, but after the second film being a big let down for me I am not too eager to see the third. However I have to see it to know what happens in the end. Is the film sold on its genre, stars or director? The first matrix film was sold heavily on its genre, because it was a really mind blowing idea (that we are all just living in a computer program). It made a name for itself. The second film and the third have been sold on the fact that they are part of the matrix trilogy. Now not that many people will really care what the film is about but they will go and see it just because it is the last instalment of the famous trilogy. Does it remind you of anything else you have seen or have heard about? The way the matrix films have been released is very similar to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Except the second lord of the rings film was released on the fact that that it had masses of rave reviews, whereas the Matrix Revolutions has been released on the fact that it is the conclusion to the last 3 years major original idea film. Has there been a soundtrack album released? For the first Matrix film a soundtrack was released. It featured the ending title music by Rage Against The Machine, and other music from and inspired by the film. I assume that there will be an LP released for the second two films, as there wasnt one for the matrix reloaded. Where are the posters and other publicity material found? On the sides of school buses there are posters running down the sides with a picture of the three main characters of the film(Morpheus, Neo, and Trinity). This is the only place I have seen adverts in the form of posters for the film. Does the positioning of the publicity tell you anything about the likely audience for the film? The fact that the posters are on school buses suggests to me that more kids will see the adverts than any one else, because as the buses drive through town in the morning, lots of kids are walking to school. So the target audience is about 15-20 years old.

The accounting summary report will discuss the journal, income statement and balance sheet, three key documents that a business has to have in order to perform its operations.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The accounting summary report for the Lemonade stand business specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Journal The journal for the Lemonade stand business is generated from the data from the first six days of operations. The journal shows the summary of all the transactions conducted by the business and shows the ending balances of all the accounts held by the business. The first transaction is the investment of capital by the owners on the first day, which increases ownersââ¬â¢ equity by $50 and increases cash by the same margin. The purchase of equipment by on credit increases the accounts payable by 413.75, and increases inventory by the same amount. The other transaction that appears dominant in the journal is the sale of lemonade, which increases cash and reduces the inventory held. The reduction in inventory is transferred to an expense account by debiting the cost of goods sold account and crediting the inventories so that the inventories reduce and the relevant expenses are charged in the relevant accounting period. After all the transactions have been recorded in the journal, the transactions are transferred to a general ledger, T-accounts, which record the transactions in the independent records for each account. Balance sheet The balance sheet for the Lemonade stand business is got from the data in the journal and the general ledger; and is a summary of the final figures for the account held by the Lemonade stand business. The balance sheet data shows that the final cash account has a balance of $185.90, which is a figure got after adding all the revenues that come from the bus iness and subtracting the cash outflows; expenses and purchases. The other item in the balance sheet is the inventory, which shows a final figure of $10.05, which is the final figure after all sales, purchases and replacement of inventory has been done. After cash and inventory have been added up, the fixed assets are added to the balance sheet, which, in this case study, are the assets that the stand has. The equipment for the lemonade stand is valued at $9.00, a figure that is found after adding up all purchases of equipment that the stand possesses. Liabilities that the lemonade stand has are accounts payable, which are realized when the lemonade stand makes purchases on credit. The liabilities are than added to the ownersââ¬â¢ equity, which is in itself a summation of the owner capital and retained earnings (Brownfield, 2007). The ownersââ¬â¢ equity is a total of $165.95, which, when added to the liabilities worth $39.00, come up to a total of $204.95, which is equal to th e total assets held by the firm.Advertising Looking for essay on accounting? American Revolution Essays (923 words) - American Enlightenment
American Revolution Essays (923 words) - American Enlightenment American Revolution Events leading to the American Rev. During the late seventeen hundreds, many tumultuous events resulted in Colonial opposition to Great Britain. The conditions of rights of the colonists will slowly be changed as the constriction of the parliament becomes more and more intolerable. During the Seven Years' War England was not only alarmed by the colonists' insistence on trading with the enemy, but also with Boston merchants hiring James Otis inorder to protest the legality of the writs of assistance (general search warrants) used to hunt out smuggled goods. "let the parliament lay what burthens they please on us, we must, it is our duty to submit and patiently bear them, till they will be pleased to relieve us....". This is a very strong dictum, that in 1764, the colonists were of a submissive nature, and were weakly pleading for self-autonomy. This small fire of anger will become a huge conflagration as the rights are slowly rescinded. On October 19, 1765 the Stamp Act Congress and Parliamentary Taxation committee's passed some laws that attempted to strengthen the grip of the English crown. "I.That his Majesty's subjects in these colonies, owe the same allegiance to the Crown of Great Britain that is owing from his subjects born within the realm, and all due subordination to that august body, the Parliament of Great Britain." This statement can be used as a summation of the entire document that the Stamp Act Congress had initiated. The statement depicts the colonists has having to be submissive and servile in the view of Great Britain, this policy angered the colonists very much, and was another component of the transition of the colonists' rights and liberties. When the Declatory Act was passed in March of 1766, many colonies were attempting to claim that they were "seceding" from England. "Whereas several of the houses of representatives in his Majesty's colonies and plantations in America, have of late, against law, or to the general assemblies of the same, the sole and exclusive right of imposing duties and taxes upon his Majesty's subjects in the said colonies....be it declared ...., that the said colonies and plantations in America, have been, are, and of right ought to be, subordinate unto, and dependent upon the imperial Crown and Parliament of Great Britain;". The Parliament of course denounced the attempt at independance and still dogmatilcally passed the following law to show that the colonists were still british subjects. Again, the colonists were infuriated and later will resist the british imperialism on the colonies. "All before, are calculated to regulate trade, and preserve prpromote a mutually beneficial intercourse between the several constituent parts of the empite"", yet those duties were always imposed with design to restrain the commerce of one part". This statement by the colonist (John Dickinson), shows that th sole rason for new taxes is just for the British gov't to make money, at the expense of the economy of the colonies. Dickinson makes a important distinction between the rights of the colonies and the authority of the parliament. Dickinson's comments were ubiquitous among the colonists, and thus infuriated them to rebellion, and the seizure of basic democratic rights. "From necessity of the case, and a regard to the mutual interest of both countries, we cheerfully consent to the operation of such acts of the British parliament as are bona fide restrained to the regulation of our external commerce, for the purpose of securing the commercial advantages of the whole empire to the mother country , and the commercial benefits of it's respective members excluding every idea of taxation, internal or external, for raising a revenue on the subjects in America without their consent ...." The continental congress had presented it's colonial rights. These rights enable the colonies to be more autonomous with exception to those several states who are under the british control. One important element of the document, is the idea of taxation without representation; the said that raising taxes without consent was illegal and that the commercial benefits of the colony should be shared within the colonies, instead of England becoming more and more economically prosperous. The whole idea of mercantilism was about to be crushed, due to this idea, of self-autonomy with respect to colonial economics. "Ye that oppose independence now, ye know not what ye do, ye are opening a door to eternal tyranny....". This statement made by Thomas Paine shows the foreshadowing, of what colonists would do. The British are trying to prevent independence, and from doing so, they are being tyrannical. Again, the rights of the colonists are being questioned and rebellion shortly will be forthcoming. "That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it

Literacy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Literacy - Essay Example Functional literacy's popularity, that since formulations by UNESCO in the 1940s is based upon the assumption that it is of great practical importance as it enables access to work and economic security. Functional literacy occupies a place at the low extreme of a literacy continuum on which cultural and critical forms of literacy occupy the high extreme. High forms of literacy are associated with high order cognition (abstraction, logical reasoning, simultaneous consideration of several ideas and wisdom beyond knowledge) but significant ideological differences separate cultural literacy and critical literacy (McLaren, 2001). Cultural literacy is a contemporary version of the classical paradigm in that it focusses upon the transmission of mainstream linguistic and cultural knowledge. Critical literacy is a refinement and extension of the progressive paradigm and is concerned with 'decoding the ideological dimensions of texts, institutions, social practices and cultural forms such as television and film, in order to reveal their selective interests' (McLaren, 2001: p. 213). Within the critical paradigm, attention is given to reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, speaking, listening, viewing, etc. only in so far as they enable one to use language critically and intentionally to serve one's own purposes. The term of 'literacy' has been chosen for a number

Why I hate 3-D Summarize Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Why I hate 3-D Summarize - Essay Example People with subtle, negligible eye problems face headaches and nausea because the artificial 3-D imaging disrupts the way our brain is accustomed to visualize 2-D objects. Moreover, 3-D movies are also dimmer than their 2-D counterparts since the projectors are inherently incompatible with 3-D films (because they distribute the light between both eyes, hence reducing it). The question that arises here is, if the 3-D experience is the wasteful technology it is, why has its reputation as a revolutionary breakthrough sustained? The answer is commercialization. Modern day producers and filmmakers are becoming captive to the market forces. Hollywood is growing insecure of the alternatives the modern consumer has access to. The advent of Blu-ray discs, HD cable, and home digital projectors has stolen the movie theatresââ¬â¢ historic role of providing a premium movie experience. 3-D seems to be the only feature left which is exclusive to movie theatres, and the market officials need to use it as an excuse to validate the high prices for movie tickets. They are capitalizing upon the success of phenomenal films like Avatar. But, what eludes the audience and the filmmakers is that movies like Avatar are the exception, not the norm. Not every filmmaker is equipped with the skill and expertise of David Cameron, neither have they been endowed with the same amount of passion for filmmaking. 3-D is suited to a limited range of genres and even then it needs careful handling otherwise filmmakers end up making fake 3-Ds like Clash of the Titans. Serious films catering to a more mature audience should not be made to comply with this growing trend of commercialization. It just doesnââ¬â¢t suit them and will eventually disappoint their audience. The future of Hollywood cannot rest upon the shallow foundations of commercialization. Itââ¬â¢s future relies on true quality. True quality is holistic in its approach,

Battle of Gettysburg :: essays research papers
What was supposed to last 90 days, now dragged on for more than two years. It was apparent, now more than ever, that little was being accomplished but the taking of hundreds of thousands of lives. The war between the Union and Confederacy had been in a sort of deadlock where each side could claim victories as easy as defeats. By this time the south had the upper hand ââ¬Å"militarily wise,â⬠just coming off a magnificent tactical victory at Chancellorsville in May. General Lee headed the Confederacyââ¬â¢s, Army of Northern Virginia, General Meade headed the Unionââ¬â¢s Army of the Potomac. Both sides saw the need to win that one, crucial victory to turn the tide completely in their favor. They would get their chances at a small town in Pennsylvania. The battle was dubbed the Battle of Gettysburg for the town of Gettysburg, PA. à à à à à By June of 1863 General Lee asked President Davis to march his army north out of VA. Davis granted Lee permission. Lee, with 75,000 troops, made his way north, just west of the Blue Ridge Mountains into Maryland. Lee made haste in doing so. He wanted the advantage to set up a defensive position forcing the Union to attack him there. His troops went from town to town for food and supplies. On June 28th they crossed into Pennsylvania and toward Gettysburg. Upon arrival about a mile northwest of town, Colonel Bufordââ¬â¢s cavalry unit met Leeââ¬â¢s III Corps headed by General Hood. Much to his disappointment his troops had began to fight without his acknowledgement. Meanwhile, the Army of the Potomac was hot on Leeââ¬â¢s heels but marched east of the Blue Ridge so as not to be detected. Meade with 100,000 men would arrive piece by piece in the next two days from the south of town. à à à à à The battle was inevitable and it began here in a little known farm town. Both sides knew that Antietam was just a prelude, a year earlier, to the carnage which was to come. General and soldier alike could see what was unraveling. These armies saw a similar scenario the first time Lee brought his army north. à à à à à Many reasons can be attributed to why General Robert E. Lee wanted to lead his troops into hostile northern territory. He knew he would be vastly outnumbered and without support. à à à à à One reason was that for 2 years now Virginia was being destroyed do to battle and armies.

The Good Earth Essay
Character Analysis Wealth will not arise around you if no burning desire for wealth arises within you. Fortuitous for us, most men and woman alike both yearn for wealth, an intangible existent that has since the dawn of time represented superior class. But why is it that we yearn for wealth so much? Money? Power? Social Status? Luxury? Pride? Furthermore, why does wealth blind us from important things, like tradition? In the beginning of The Good Earth, we are introduced to an impecunious, young farmer, Wang Lung, who, due to his father's arrangement, ends up marrying a ââ¬Å"brown common, patient facedâ⬠slave with the name of O-Lana. Like most farmer, Wang Lung has a strong connection and attachment to the land. However he is, like most men, an ambitious man, very envious of the Hang family and desires to have their wealth. Forensic Psychology Essay
1.How often is the insanity defense used and how successful is it? I would like to answer this question, with the presentation of my opinion and the performed research. It is within my opinion, that the insanity defense is used over excessively and is taking part in almost every defense to any crime. Offenders seem to have the knowledge to the use of this defense and will often provide a plea to guilty by insanity or temporary insanity, within the faith, to receive a reduced sentence. While insanity has to be a proven fact and a psychologist has to conduct a variety of tests to confirm the offender is suffering from a mental incompetence or insanity, most offenders have the ability to mislead or deceive psychologists to receive the evaluation they seek. Such action, if discovered, would actually prove the sanity of such offenders, but in most cases, it cannot be ascertained. The success of such defense is, within my view, very effective. The performed research is revealing a different answer. According to the St. Joseph News Press (2007), it has stated the opposite to my opinion. This article within a study of the national mental health institute claimââ¬â¢s; ââ¬Å"the insanity defense plea is used in less than one (1) percent of criminal cases in the United States and less than a quarter of those pleas are successfulâ⬠. Retrieved from; St. Joseph News Press (2007). With these opinions and views in combination, one would have to conduct further studies on this subject, to establish the correct answer. Everyone has different sentiments, within the use of the insanity defense and the successfulness of such validation. 2. Identify and discuss the major criticisms of the insanity defense. It is my belive, the major criticism of the insanity defense could be the establishment of prove to the claim of insanity. More often, offenders will try to make use of this defense for the hope of receiving a reduced sentence or the sentence to receive institutional care. According to my research, there are three (3) major criticisms within the insanity defense. The Insanity defense is mentioned as confusing to the psychiatric and legal concept. Furthermore, it is explained that the word ââ¬Å"insaneâ⬠is more of a legal word, then a medical term, and therefor to prove a person or a criminal insane, one must find the mental condition, of a criminal, severely impaired to the point of losing oneââ¬â¢s free will. A psychiatrist may be or may not able to determine such illness, and a juryââ¬â¢s decision solely based on a psychiatristsââ¬â¢ opinion may be grounded on unreliable evidence. Retrieved from; Westââ¬â¢s Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2 (2008). 2. This criticism is on the moral basis and the consequences. This section suggests that the crime is of more importance, then the moral imperatives. It also addresses the way a criminal, who does plea insanity, should be trialed and punished for the crime. It is suggested, that the criminal should be convicted and the mental illness should be taken in consideration at the time of sentencing. If this method would be used by the court, it would allow the judge to determine the length of imprisonment, within a hospital prison, and the defendant would have to provide prove of improvement to the once dangerous behavior. Retrieved from; Westââ¬â¢s Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2 (2008). 3. This last criticism, is turned to the rich and wealthy criminals, who make use of the insanity plea. It is argued; ââ¬Å"only wealthy defendant have the ability to retain a high-priced psychiatrist, who may be able to declare the defendant insane with the performed examinationâ⬠. It also is believed, people who have less monetary funds and depend on the defense of a public defender, will not receive the same quality of defense, and they are also unable to receive the same value within the insanity exam. Such critic is based on the suggestion, that the insanity defense should be eliminated. Retrieved from; Westââ¬â¢s Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2 (2008). 3. When a mentally ill person is convicted and incarcerated, what are some of the difficulties in providing appropriate psychological treatment for these offenders? The difficulties in providing appropriate care, to a incarcerated mentally ill person, would stand to the inappropriate care and knowledge of the staff or facility personnel, to the condition of the mentally ill. A prison or jail is not equipped nor can such establishment provide the correct treatment to the mentally ill. To take in consideration the staff and the special medical treatment such person would require, every day, while in such confinement. But the alternative to this problem is stated in: Wrightsmanââ¬â¢s Psychology and the Legal System, 6e,(2011) in which it is proposed; ââ¬Å"When defendants are found incompetent to stand trial, they can be committed for a period of treatment designed to restore their competenceâ⬠. And also; ââ¬Å"for dealing with the unrestorably incompetent criminal defendant include her or his waiving the right to be found incompetent to proceed to trial and using a special form of commitment for incompetent defendants who are judged at a provisional trial to be guilty of the crimes with which they are chargedââ¬Å". Retrieved from; Wrightsmanââ¬â¢s Psychology and the Legal System, 6e, pg; 249 (2011). It is my believe, the above suggested method, would be the better approach to the incarceration of incompetent or the mentally ill offenders.

ottoman empire essays
ottoman empire essays The Ottoman Empire was founded in the late thirteenth century and last until the early twentieth century. This empire was one of historys greatest military empires(564 McKay, Hill, Buckler) that was centered around the present day country of Turkey. The Ottoman Empire, once, at its peak had controlled a vast area extending from the Balkan Peninsula to the Middle East and North Africa in the middle of the sixteenth century. This was accomplished under the rule of Suleiman the Magnificent. This empire was a Muslim based society. The Ottomans, also known as the Apostles of Islam, had not forced the conquered Christians to convert to Islam. Instead they had to pay a special poll tax called the cizye. These non-muslims that paid the tax were granted a covenant of protection called the dhimma. The sultan, the leader of the Ottoman Empire, exploited the land and the people of his empire as he saw fit. Everyone was a slave to the sultan. There was no personal landholding; everything belonged to the sultan. The sultan also levied an annual tax of one to three thousand male children on the Christians. These children were taken to Turkey and brought up as Muslims and trained to fight and administer. Some of these children rose up to the ranks of the Sultans bureaucracy. The others formed an elite group of the Sultans army called the Janissary Corps. The Janissaries were governed by different laws and had the privilege of protecting the sultan. There devotion to such discipline had made them a powerful army allowing them to conquer and rule the most powerful empire in the world during the sixteenth century. ...

Anti-dumping case of Vietnam Catfish in US market
Anti-dumping case of Vietnam Catfish in US market Abstract The ââ¬Å"Vietnam Catfish warâ⬠was a famous yet controversial case in recent trade disputes. The U.S. Anti-dumping law protects American industries from supposedly unfair import competitions (Lindsey, 1999, p.2). On June 28, 2002, the coalition Catfish Farmers of America (CFA) and eight individual fish processors filed an anti-dumping petition against imports of ââ¬Å"certain frozen fish fillets from Vietnamâ⬠under the US. Anti-Dumping Law to the Department of Commerce (DOC) and the International Trade Commission (ITC) (Le, 2004, p.1). Over one year after the original investigation conducted by the US. DOC, the case was finally concluded with the imposition of anti-dumping duties on imports of fish fillets from Vietnam. The range of the duties is between 37 and 64 percent on value of imports (Reynolds & Su, 2005, p. 40). This is what the US. Government said, is it true that the Vietnamese government subsidizes Vietnamese firms in Mekong Delta to unfairly gain a better market share in the U.S.? Or is it just the result of domestic political lobby in the U.S.? This paper will try to discuss related issues surrounding the story of that catfish war. The paper will go through the steps used in the class: issue, rules, analysis, and conclusion (I.R.A.C). Introduction the ISSUE Raising catfish is an important source of income for households residing in the Mekong Delta in Southern Vietnam for more than 50 years (Nguyen, Nguyen & Phillips, 2004, p.20). Catfish is also produced in the Southern United States where it is a major source of income for fish farmers in Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana (Hanson, 2005, p.1). In 2002, aquatic products represented 12 percent of total exports from Vietnam, and export value frozen fillets (mostly catfish) is 18 percent of the total value of aquatic exports (VASEP website). The increase participation of cheaper Vietnamese catfish in the U.S forced the Catfish Farmers of America (CFA) to lead a move to halt catfish imports. First, Vietnamese products were forced to be labeled as ââ¬Å"Traâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Basaâ⬠instead of ââ¬Å"Catfishâ⬠. Second, on the ground that Vietnamese government subsidized Vietnamese catfish farmers, in January 2003, the U.S. Department of Commerce ruled in favor of the antidumping claim and established duties ranging from 37 to 64 percent on imports of frozen catfish from Vietnam (Reynolds & Su, 2005, p. 40). In July 2003, the U.S. International Trade Commission ratified the ruling. As a result, Vietnamese exports of catfish to the U.S. plummeted, almost being shut down completely. Other facts According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, the catfish industry is the largest farm-raised fishing sector in the U.S. In 1999, it accounted for 80 and 64 percent of aquaculture production in volume and value, generating 440 million U.S. dollars (Hanson, 2005, p.1). The delta of the Mekong river, in South Vietnam, also provides a good hab itat for catfish. Known as Basa and Tra, Vietnamese catfish raised in ponds and cages that are placed in the river itself. In 1996, two years after the trade embargo of US. against Vietnam was lifted, Vietnam started exporting frozen fillets of Basa and Tra to the U.S. with sales of a few hundred tons and initially marketed as ââ¬Å"Chinese soleâ⬠. West Coast Chinese restaurants responded allowing Basa to take one percent of the US. catfish market (Nguyen, Nguyen & Phillips, 2004, p. 22). The level of exports increased significantly in the early 2000s, reaching a market share in U.S. consumption of catfish of 8.4 percent in 2000 and 19.6 percent in 2002 (Hanson, 2005, p. 4). Also between 2000 and 2002, Vietnamese production capacity expanded by 100 percent, and approximately 50 percent of Vietnamese Tra and Basa was sold in the U.S. market.
